Kauai Farm Fair 2018

Kauai Farm Fair Next Weekend – August 16-19, 2018 – Kauai, Hawaii

If you are lucky enough to be on the Garden Island next weekend you will have the opportunity to go to the Kauai County Farm Bureau Fair. Every year, as a tribute to the agricultural and ranching businesses on the island, the Kauai Farm Fair brings together residents and guests from all over the island for a weekend of fun, food, entertainment and farming.

It may not be as big as some the fairs on the mainland, but at Kauai’s Farm Fair you will definitely notice the island culture and favors mixed in with traditional fair offerings. For a taste of what you will experience here is a short video of the fair from 2009. It is pretty much the same every year except for the entertainment.

The Kauai Farm Fair is divided up into five sections: Entertainment, Rides/Attractions, Food Choices, Exhibits and Ag/Livestock.

At the entertainment tent performances are non-stop. Bingo and other contests, fashion shows, dance, choir, karaoke and more fill the daytime hours. Comedy, hypnosis and music are featured events at night. This year four musical groups are lined up to perform: The Vitals 808, Revival, Wally Rita y los Kauaianos and Ka Ha. E. K. Fernandez brings plenty of carnival rides and games to satisfy any child (or adult). This year there are two new rides. The Zero Gravity ride is a high speed, gravity-defying experience taken to new heights! The new, exciting Rockin’ Tug kiddie tug boat ride will put a smile on the keiki (kids). As the tug boat begins to spin, it rocks back and forth; up and down the half pipe shaped track.

Fun Pass will be required to ride the rides; play games; and purchase food, beverages, and novelties from the Fernandez concessions. The minimum purchase of a Fun Pass is $20, which will give you 200 credits on your card. Rides are 35, 50 or 75 credits each.

Food Choices

The food booths are definitely a highlight for everyone who visits the Fair. This year each has made an effort to expand the menu with the addition of healthy choices and locally grown and made items. And of course, you will find carnival favorites too!

Food booths are managed by non-profits, including the Pop Warner chapters from Kapaa, Koloa, Kekaha and Lihue, plus Kauai High School, Island School, and Kawaikini New Century Public Charter School. The revenue generated is a fundraiser critical to each of these programs in our community and to the Farm Bureau.

Some of the food choices are: Kalua pork bowls and sandwiches, Mahi plates, Burgers, Chicken plates, Poke bowls, Saimin, and Chili. Fried on the spot Malasadas are a must for dessert!

At the Agricultural Exhibit Tent, flower and fruit/vegetable exhibits, shows and contests run throughout the day. Click here for the daily schedule.

Agriculture and Livestock

Shows, demonstrations and a petting zoo fill the schedule under the livestock tent.

Youth and adult volunteers will operate the 4-H Petting Zoo during limited hours each day under the Livestock tent, located next to the county baseball field. Bring a child to share the experience of cuddling up to a bunny, petting a tame chicken or hanging out with a cute piglet. Take advantage of a teachable moment to develop an appreciation for animals and agriculture. Cost to enter is $2.00 a person. All proceeds of the zoo will benefit the Kauai 4-H Federation, a not-for-profit organization that provides educational and leadership opportunities for youth.
